Thakoon: Spring/Summer 2012

Thakoon showed us a mixture of Indian paisley prints, Western motifs, and metallics, on waisted fit and flare, simple shift shapes/silhouettes which fused together in an eye-popping show, with a feminine flirty feel took, with gilded lamé bands and at the hem on slim pants and tailored shorts as did simple shift dresses, while intricate embroideries and lace were selective on tops and jackets.

Fashion Designers contribute to London Design Week

When NOWNESS asked five fashion designers to send a message to the world via eight laser-brandishing robots to mark this year’s London Design Festival (which runs concurrent with London Fashion Week), some of them decided to toy with it. Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders simply documented his love of baked treats; Thakoon broadcast an ominous warning to mankind, while Kim Jones of Dunhill was less cryptic when presented with the proverbial soapbox––he sent out a stark memo on the decline of endangered wildlife, including figures to back it up. Rick Owens soothed with a more reassuring approach, and Bella Freud added a typically cheeky wink to the project with a quote from a US founding father. The project, entitled OUTRACE, which borrows robots from Audi’s production line, was conceived by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram of international design company Kram/Weisshaar. Fitted with LED lights instead of tools, the robots sit on a rotating platform and each write a letter in turn while being filmed by long-exposure cameras. The communiqués will be projected onto screens in Trafalgar Square from September 16 to 23, along with missives from the public who can interact via the website outrace.org.

"A little rebellion now and then is a good thing." ––Bella Freud (via President Thomas Jefferson)
"Everything's gonna be OK." ––Rick Owens
“If you don’t like cookies, you might not have a soul.” ––Scott Sternberg, Band of Outsiders
“They live among us and manipulate us through subliminal advertising.” ––Thakoon
"Javan rhinos, 60 left." ––Kim Jones
Homewear Gets a Makeover As the Fashion House Fendi Joins Forces With Fumi Gallery, The crux of the brand is its experimental drive, explains Silvia Fendi: “Even now that we are a big company, we have total freedom in the design studio. It’s still a dreamland where you can really explore your way.” In Every Dream Home is at Fumi Gallery in London until October 31

Spring 2009: Trend: Peach

We're only a few days into New York Fashion Week, and already obvious trends are emerging. Most of these surround colour, which is no surprise considering trend predictors have been tipping folk off for months about what hues will be making waves in the future.

In New York, everything is (in the words of Betty Rizzo) "peachy keen, jellybean". At almost every show so far, we've seen shades of peach or soft coral in every fabric from suede to chiffon...

Marc Jacobs has chosen to use this shade in criss-cross maxi dresses dressed up with statement belts and accessories in black. Chris Benz sent and oversize tee slouched over frilled skirts, while Isaac Mizrahi used shades of coral, pink and orange in a spotty print on a suit and long Summer dress.

Peter Som's belted, buttery soft suit was finished with glam Bruno Frissoni sandals, while Thakoon's intricately pleated grecian gown called for no accessories whatsoever. Finally, Jill Stuart went for the most romantic use of the colour, with watercolour peaches on a diaphanous chiffon fairy dress.

Thakoon & Hayden-Harnett Sign on For Target

Thakoon Panichgul joins the likes of Richard Chai, Rogan and others as the next limited-edition designer for Target’s GO International line. The designer who is known for his mixing of prints and modernized minimalism is set to release his collection at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com in late December

Thakoon’s designs will be on the floor for most of the month of January. Before designing his namesake line, Thakoon worked as a merchandizer at J.Crew and writer at Harper’s Bazaar. We love Thakoon’s simple structures and vintage looking prints, as do stars like Amanda Peet, Joy Bryant and Tracee Ellis Ross.

Hayden-Harnett are also signing on to partner with Target for a limited edition handbag line to be available at most Target stores nationwide and at Target.com from December 28, 2008 through March 8, 2009. So much for post-holiday blues!
